Why are new profiles hidden?

As a moderator for a BeamMP Mod, it was really nice being able to come to the forums to check account age to aid in detecting alt accounts or just new players in general. Since the change was made for the default to be hidden, we have to rely on chats which don’t give the full story.

I can understand wanting to have some privacy, so what if there was maybe a “New Account” tag for profiles newer than a few days or even 24 hours. I think having the exact age is the best option but wanted to suggest an alternative because I do not know the reasoning for the original change.

Hello, thanks for the feedback! I was just looking at what can be seen from the perspective of a non-staff account, and it appears that account age is still visible.

Does the presence of this solve the issue that you’re referencing?

Not for me , hopefully it will work for you again,

That screenshot was taken from a non-staff account… meaning that anyone can see this

I just realized I have that background on XD

all accounts i look at are private, is there anyway i accidentally turned on a setting? I can post some examples

Do you have Discord? I’m sitting in a VC in the BeamMP Discord server right now. If you’d like to pop in and screenshare, we can look at it together.

I typed thr into the search bar just to get random accounts and clicked on the top five, this is all of them being hidden

if you wanna join a discord channel and i think someone can drag you and try to help you

It’s something that was introduced in a Discourse update (The software this forum is running).

You can see a post about it here on the official forum with a reply on how to disable the setting. - All User public profiles are hidden? - Support - Discourse Meta

I believe this is the release post of this feature: New site setting to hide user profiles by default - Support - Discourse Meta

This is something an admin user of the forum has to change.

yeah! OP joined the VC I was in and we were looking at that.

Interestingly enough, though, I looked into the settings for the server (I’m an admin) and we actually don’t have it set to hide profiles by default.

We’re working on some small changes though before pushing through the newest Discourse update, so maybe this is an issue that gets fixed in a update we just haven’t installed yet.
