So I wanted to use steam input for my controller on BeamMP, and I added it to my library and got it working in 2023, with no issues. My configuration has like 30 new keys binded to it.
For some reason, the last few days it has been acting weird, and keeps disappearing every even reboot, reappearing every odd reboot. The shortcut also dissapears from my search bar and an app called Everything(search engine).
I still have 150 GB of free space, so it can’t be anything to do with the GUI failing, and I’m coming up on a blank as to what’s causing it. I’m not sure if this is the right section to create the post, since I haven’t been on the website until now.
I’d really appreciate if someone knows what’s going on and if there’s a fix. thanks!
This is an appropriate section for this, yes, since issues with steam wouldn’t really fall in the purview of support.
This is an interesting one, hopefully someone has an answer for you.
I did find this on an old Steam posting
VERY SIMPLE FIX!!! Just go into your config folder then right click “Shortcuts.vdf” folder click Properties then tick the box “READ ONLY” and save! YOU WILL NEVER LOSE YOUR NON STEAM GAMES IN YOUR LIBRARY! HOWEVER… please remember YOU MUST UNTICK the read only box whenever you want to add a non steam games or when you want to delete a non steam game. YOU MUST TICK READ ONLY After new non steam game is saved or if you delete a non steam game… This works perfect! to find “Shortcuts.vdf” first make sure you have change file and search options. UNCHECKED. To check go to your C: drive open it then click file tab top left corner then click change file and search options and then click the view tap, then find hide extensions for know file types and UNCHECK THE BOX. save then exit. You can KEEP this setting off forever.
Now, here is how to save your non steam games from disappearing. C:/SteamDirectory/userdata/SteamUserId/config. Follow the above directions and enjoy your steam controller!
Hope that helps!
Alright, It seems to have resolved itself for the moment. I’ll come back to this if it happens again.
