Ghost cars for better fps

My PC is very old. In single player I get +90fps and on a server with 4 people I get around 60fps, but when there are 10 people I usually only get about 20fps.

I’ve noticed that when there are multiple orange blobs, the fps improve a lot, so I was wondering if it maybe was an idea to make everyone an orange blob and then replace the blob locally with some sort of ghost version of their vehicle with a rudimentary bounding box.

For competitive races it would be open for cheating, but for fun or when you can trust the other players that wouldn’t be as important.

I’ve just read that you can delete other players to free up some cpu cores, but that kind of defeats the purpose of playing online in my opinion.

This does sound like an interesting idea that would open our platform up to people with lower end PCs. I’m not sure how this would be implemented, though, Maybe an option to reduce players vehicles to simplified traffic cars on your instance of the game? I feel like all of the major set pieces are already there to make this work. We have a simplified traffic vehicles already, and ghosting is already possible as shown in RM2, we also know that client side modding is possible.

Someone just needs to figure out how to get all of those functions to work together. I encourage and invite somebody to try, if you get it working, we might even be able to add it to the base platform and give you a contributor credit!
