It’s client issue. I expected the game to load

On top of this, the launcher takes AGES to even say or do anything.

This is strange, It should load very quickly as it is a console application. This suggestions something more might be going on on your computer.

Does it happen with the official servers when you try to join them?

I was having this issue (the connecting message, not the slow launcher loading), and I found that disabling all mods except BeamMP and the ones needed by the server fixed it immediately
