Dear Fellow Drivers,
We meet again, just over a year later. We once again would like to take the time to reflect on the past year here at BeamMP along with our plans and vision for the coming year.
1. Reflection on 2024
In 2024, We have seen that several of our aims for the previous year have been delivered and continue to receive updates and improvements as we move forward. Internally, BeamMP is more active than ever, and we have seen significant growth of the team this year - and while that has brought challenges, we feel we are in a much better place than last year. To put this into perspective, here are this year’s stats:
- BeamMP now has over 1.2 million registered players.
- Our Discord server now has surpassed 211,000 members.
- In excess of 25,000 lines of code added to the project on GitHub.
We’ve made strides in the following areas:
-
Open-source License - BeamMP is now open-source! We’ve moved to the AGPL-3.0 license across our mod, launcher and server components. This opens up a world of opportunity for collaboration within the open-source community, and eliminates the previous uncertainty around contributing code.
-
Improved Localisations - BeamMP now supports over 12 languages and we hope to see that continue to grow in 2025!
-
Improved Documentation - Work is continuing on our new Docs project
-
Improved Patreon offering - We’ve improved the experience for our EA members by adding additional benefits.
-
Clearing up our Official Servers, creating a better player experience. We’ve disabled users spawning invalid modded vehicles, as well as introducing a new moderation system, allowing moderators to efficiently pull chatlogs, kick, ban and tempban players. Player reports can be made via our Discord server and very soon In-Game - please do help out by reporting players breaking our rules!
-
Team Restructuring - As we mentioned in our last Project Update & statement we were undergoing an internal restructure. This is now complete and inter-team communication is easier than ever, with clear routes to raise items with another team.
-
BeamMP now natively supports Linux - We have been working on this behind-the-scenes for a while, and we now have a working launcher that runs natively on Linux!
2. Vision for 2025
Looking towards 2025 the team have already been putting effort in towards the project and the experience that an end user has with it. That is why in 2025 we will be making a number of improvements to the following areas:
-
Introduction of a new BeamMP Accounts portal. This portal is going to be the new centralised area for managing your BeamMP account. Ranging from Metrics to leaderboards, abilities to better manage your server and auth keys and a more streamlined process for receiving your EA perks. As well as this, you will also be able to remain logged into more than one instance of BeamMP at once! No more logging in again between your desktop and steam deck.
-
Launch of the new BeamMP Staff Portal. We’ve been developing this quietly behind the scenes to help our internal teams and the player base. This portal will provide a single platform for our staff to perform their duties.
-
Further improvements to moderation. We want to have better reporting procedures to further improve moderation throughout BeamMP.
-
Creation of a dedicated translations team, to ensure that BeamMP is accessible for as many people from different languages as possible
3. Commitment to the Community, Partnerships and Collaborations
Last year we outlined that we are wanting to be more open, transparent and approachable within the community and the world as a whole. In the last year we were true to our word on this and made numerous changes across the project. We opened up our license to be AGPL-3.0, we introduced a new addition to the server list to signpost featured servers and we also provided a new way for hosting partners to communicate with us and each other. We’re continuing to explore ways that we can develop this further.
4. Thank you
We’d like to again extend our gratitude to the community for your continued support. From all of us at BeamMP, we wish you happy holidays and a happy new year.
Sincerely,
Titch, Mack and Lion
BeamMP Management, on behalf of the BeamMP Staff Team
